91 - Charles Melton 2005 Rosé (Barossa Valley) ; $15
Wine Enthusiast, August 2006
This is probably the best rosé that comes out of Australia, and it seems to get better every year. It has an underlying, piquant citrus note, and raspberry and black cherry flavors galore.

92 - Howard Park 2003 Scotsdale Shiraz (Great Southern); $21
Wine Enthusiast, August 2006
This vintage doesn't really gel with the wine's typically earthy character, but it is delicious, in any case. This year there's cherry andn light spice on the nose, and a palate brimming with juicy plums and black cherries. The feel is excellent - like smooth stone or clay. Inported by Bluewater Wine Co. Editor's Choice.

Howard Park proves pedigree, with future screwed in place
James Halliday, The Weekend Australian, July 2006
“Howard Park has celebrated its 20th birthday in impeccable style. Owners Jeff and Amy Burch have a magnificent cellar of great French wines and these played a stylish support role for the two core tastings: 20 vintages of Howard Park riesling (1986 to 2005) and 19 of cabernet sauvignon (1986 to 2004). » Download PDF |

Decanter includes The Fergus among the world's 50 Best-Value Reds
The May 2006 edition of UK-based Decanter, one of the world's most respected wine publications, includes a selection of the world's 50 Best-Value Reds. Among them is Tim Adams The Fergus, along with the following comment from Matthew Jukes: "Surely this is one of the most underrated wines in Australia. Grenache is still regarded as a second-class citizen (to Shiraz), and yet the aroma and texture in this wine are truly heavenly." |
