IWC gold medal completes UK hat trick for Tim Adams 2004 The Fergus

Tim Adams 2004 The Fergus has completed an impressive hat trick of recent UK performances by winning a gold medal at this week’s 2006 International Wine challenge in London.

In the past few weeks the wine has also been included in Decanter magazine’s selection of the world’s 50 best-value reds, and found a place in Matthew Jukes’ 100 Best Australian Wines Hotlist (www.expertwine.com).

“I’m obviously proud to see The Fergus receive such praise,” said Tim Adams.

“The International Wine Challenge attracts some 10,000 entries and is one of the world’s most highly regarded wine competitions; Decanter is among the top two or three wine publication’s worldwide; and Matthew Jukes is very much the new face of British wine writing.

“These results can only help our exports to the UK, which is already our single biggest market.

“But it goes deeper than that. The results also underline our success in producing wines that truly appeal to the international palate and that’s where Australian tastes are increasingly finding themselves.

“Australians, like Europeans, increasingly seek wines that are subtle and match food, rather than wines that are obvious and overpower food. I’m confident that’s exactly what we’re delivering.”

Tim Adams 2004 The Fergus, a blend of 55 per cent grenache, 23 per cent shiraz and 22 per cent cabernet franc, is currently available in Australia for about $24.

In compiling his Australian wines “Hotlist”, Matthew Jukes had this to say about the wine and the winery: “A virtual unknown in the UK, but an estate with their finger on the pulse and a palate for balance — the seamless flavour, rolls on and on and on — in fact it is still going.”

Tim Adams 2005 Pinot Gris was also included in Jukes’ Australian top hundred: “From nought to my 100 in just three vintages! TAPG is a stunning wine with perfect balance between fleshy pear, apple juiciness and crisp acidity.”
